The Story so Far
Nigeria's history spans ancient civilizations like the Nok culture and powerful empires such as Benin and Oyo. British colonization in the late 19th century led to Nigeria's amalgamation and eventual independence in 1960.
Post-independence, Nigeria experienced military coups, a civil war, and the transition to the Fourth Republic in 1999. Rich in oil, Nigeria's economy has faced volatility and efforts at diversification. Ethnic and religious diversity presents both opportunities and conflicts. Key issues include security challenges and insurgencies.
Nigeria remains a significant regional and global player, striving for stability and growth amidst its complex socio-political landscape.
