The Story so Far

The garden enterprise began as an effort to revitalize underutilized land donated by Kevin's grandfather. Initially neglected, the land was sporadically used until recent community efforts led by Kevin focused on systematic agricultural use.

Projects included planting vegetables and developing infrastructure. Managed by a community committee, the enterprise faces challenges like fencing and water resources. Future plans involve building a community hall and diversifying into poultry farming and aquaculture.

The goal is to create a sustainable model supporting local agriculture and community initiatives, including funding sports programs for the youth through the Young Villa Football Academy.

Why

Garden revitalization supports sustainable agriculture and community youth programs

The garden enterprise is motivated by the desire to revitalize underutilised land for sustainable agriculture, supporting both local needs and the Young Villa Football Academy.

Commitments include developing community infrastructure, engaging youth, and promoting sustainable practices like aquaculture and poultry farming. Obligations involve financial accountability, ensuring community involvement, and operational efficiency to address challenges like water access and animal control.

The project aims to create a self-sustaining model that benefits the entire community, fosters sustainable living, and provides resources for local initiatives and youth programs.

What

Community garden produces vegetables, supports youth, plans for diversification

The garden enterprise involves key players like Kevin Boucal, who leads initiatives; the Young Villa Football Academy, representing the community's youth; Martin Mindy, the community chairperson; Emmanuel, involved in operations; and a community committee overseeing management.

The garden primarily produces various vegetables and has experimented with sesame cultivation, though it was less profitable. Future plans include diversifying into poultry farming and aquaculture to enhance sustainability.

The project aims to revitalize underutilized land, support local agricultural needs, and provide financial resources for community initiatives and youth programs, creating a sustainable model benefiting the entire community.

How

Community garden grows vegetables, supports youth, and improves infrastructure collaboratively

The garden enterprise involves several projects, including vegetable cultivation, sesame cultivation, infrastructure development, and supporting the Young Villa Football Academy.

Solutions implemented include drilling boreholes and using wells for water access, improving fences to keep animals out, and fostering community involvement. Methods used to achieve these goals include regular community meetings for planning and management, collaborative management through a dedicated committee, and transparent resource allocation to support both community and youth initiatives.

These efforts aim to create a sustainable, community-driven agricultural project that benefits local residents and supports broader community development goals.

The Now and Vision

Garden revitalizes land, supports youth, aims for sustainable and diverse agriculture

The garden enterprise aims to revitalize underutilized land into a productive agricultural area, supporting community initiatives and the Young Villa Football Academy.

Its missions include promoting sustainable practices and enhancing local food security. Key targets involve increasing vegetable production, improving infrastructure such as fencing and water access, and diversifying activities with poultry farming and aquaculture.

To achieve these goals, the enterprise demands financial resources, community participation, and technical support for advanced farming techniques. These efforts aim to create a sustainable and community-driven project that benefits both local residents and broader community development objectives.
